OUR STORY

Rod is passionate about creating employment in Zimbabwe.
The training programme at XMPLA is the foundation for everything else we do here. To date, we have trained about 200 graduates over a ten year period and around 90% of them are employed full time. 25% of these still work with XMPLA.
Whether we’re talking about training or supplying a service, our goal is to supply on time, to standard, without wastage and with joy. We need to understand our customers and be sure to exceed their expectations. That’s what Rod believes
and what he teaches.

ROD'S STORY

I felt like a fish out of water when I first moved here from the UK because things didn’t work too well, with the frequent power cuts and water cuts; having to make a plan to get a hot shower, spending the evenings in the dark, my phone not charged. This was definitely life without the style. I had to get away from the dark evenings!

24/7 lighting for a
3 bedroomed house
US$400

150 litre solar water heater US$220

Added 5m water tower so I’ve always got water US$1,000

I remember that first evening, not too fondly! I remember my first cold shower since boarding school.
I was freezing and staring up at the stark LED bulb, dreaming of hot water and warm light. I am so grateful for the energy the sun gives us now!

Expanded electric capacity adding in
TV, security system & gate system
US$200

Upgrade to include freezer & fridge
US$500

My wife and kids inspire me to do more and be more and I strive to keep them happy. I want them to have the same opportunities as families overseas – to be connected and to be able to do what they need to do when they need to do it. And I need them to feel safe.

Now I have a 5kVa smart inverter, 3kW of panels on the roof and 4 x 12V 200Ah batteries. The load is split with one circuit always on the inverter – the UPS for study, lounge and master bedroom. Two other circuits cover all other electrical requirements. We can have a cup of tea or coffee any time without messing with gas kettles or thermos flasks – we just put the (electric) kettle on. Upgrade: about US$2,500

I really like the look of the lithium battery option! – My options range from a 2kW inverter and 5kWh battery (US$ 2,500) up to 10kW power and 20kWh battery (US$ 9,500).

All I need now is a reliable supplier of Nespresso pods, and I am good to go!

MAKING YOUR WORK WORK FOR YOU

Our post-graduate training programme is the foundation for everything else that we do. As we fund it, it is better than free: we sponsor each trainee to the tune of US$20 per week. We have successfully trained about 200 graduates over a ten year period and 90% of them are in full time work or employment, mostly not with us. This is part of our gift to Zimbabwe.

Dave Simba, Operations/Training Manager
I love people and I am passionate about my training so I am excited to be able to fulfil my calling to work with new trainees who have from universities armed with degrees but not yet ready for the work environment. The XMPLA training programme exposes them to the real world of business and prepares them for employment. I love the challenge of meeting different personalities and helping people unpack their talents. I love the values XMPLA stands for.

I chose to do a personal development training programme which equipped me to deal with strategies and frameworks for personal growth, goal setting, and self improvement. This programme is designed to bring you from knowing nothing about the corporate world to knowing everything, leading you to become a professionally well-rounded individual, enhancing you in classroom education with key career-related experiences. After the personal development training programme, we further trained and sat for Microsoft Exams to attain the following certifications: i. Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) ii. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) These certifications have reinforced my university education with a world-relevant spectrum of fundamental and technical concepts to assess and validate core technical knowledge and enhance technical credibility in IT. All thanks to XMPLA for offering me this opportunity. Today I am a Senior Technology Engineer at Apex ICT, ready to take on any modern desktop-related work.

I am grateful to XMPLA for taking me in as a trainee-employee in 2019 where I studied in finance and administration while I worked in the finance department. I have learnt so much. I particularly value what I have learnt in Excel because I find it extremely useful. I have learnt to run a business professionally and with love and care for our product, our suppliers, our customers and for each other. And no matter what challenges we face, God has always been there to help us through. XMPLA believes that growth comes from the well-being of its staff and keeping its customers happy. I look forward going to work every day as the team at XMPLA has become more than colleagues: we have become family.

I completed a diploma at the Bulawayo Polytechnic in Information Technology, after which, I enrolled in *NUST to study Computer Science in the evenings while I worked on my courses at XMPLA during the day. My first course was in Business Proposal Writing where, at the end of the course, I wrote my first proposal for the European Innovation Council for the EU. This was an amazing experience where we presented them with ideas for potential funding from different EU innovation funding schemes. I have since then written 4 more proposals to the EU. This year, I moved to the IT department, where I’ve since learned new skills which are highly valued in the IT industry, working specifically with Microsoft technologies and products. This has really helping me become a seasoned IT professional. I have amassed a number of Microsoft certifications in this regard and these are highly valuable to any IT professional’s career progression. I’m particularly enthusiastic about how XMPLA moulds you into this “workplace ready” individual with a strong work ethic. Above all they promote good rapport with colleagues and foster good communication skills, written and spoken, with all levels of management. *National University of Science and Technology, Bulawayo’s local university

At university l was taught problem solving and disciplines in IT which include software engineering and development, programming, website development, logic and computer security, graphics design, artificial intelligence, teamwork and IOT. My XMPLA training brought to the table marketing, basic accounting, how to rebrand myself as a product and service with a stress on leadership with excellent standards. l am now able to market myself effectively and manage my finances efficiently as I grow by communicating with my customers, always focused on offering excellent service. My training also prompted me to learn more about communication practically as we were given the opportunity to practice customer care, which included how to handle a customer (including those who speak different languages) over the mobile phone, emails and other communication channels. The training has really helped to enhance my degree in words l can’t express. Since my training, I have got better and better at research and problem-solving as I am constantly challenged to think on my feet and provide viable solutions to presented problems. These skills extend to other non-IT related tasks around the office which has made me a valuable team player within the work and office environment.

After completing a degree in Electronic Engineering at NUST, I joined XMPLA to complete courses in business writing and IT. Almost immediately after completing courses, I moved to the IT department full time, with very little time spent in writing. There I started off working with website design for some time working with content management systems like WordPress and PhP. I then later on moved to Microsoft-centred projects where I have since become a Certified Azure Engineer, working with cloud software unique to Microsoft. My experience did not end there as I took advantage of further opportunities to specialise in another branch of IT which involves Onboarding Linux servers with follow up and routine tech support in the form of patching, monitoring and maintaining general good health of these infrastructure. This side of IT also provided me with further certification under the world standard Oracle certifications programme which is a great addition to my professional portfolio.
Mari-Anne Ncube
My first course was in business proposals writing which has taught me good communication skills, how to work in a team and tackle challenges and to research effectively. With time, and after joining in the Imports Team at XMPLA, I learnt a lot about sourcing and imports. The most exciting part was learning and mastering all the processes involved in bringing in products. I will always be very thankful for all that experience because many of the skills I have learnt there, I can transfer to other areas of life. As an aspiring businessperson, I am excited about how my experience here has sharpened me and I am thrilled to watch the company moving forward, growing bigger and broader. We are always bringing in more trainees and creating employment which is amazing given the current unemployment struggles we have in the country. Most of the people that have had the opportunity to train at XMPLA have blossomed and succeeded in their field either here or in other companies thanks to the impressive skillset they have acquired from their XMPLA training.
Clive Nyandoro
I began my training with preparatory courses in marketing and bookkeeping and later on completed a course in IT which led to exams in MD-100 and MP-200 so that I can now proudly claim to be a Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator Certified Associate. While working at XMPLA, I have also added to my skillset cloud computing, Azure Active Directory and Virtualisation and Modern Desktop Administration. The training I have received at XMPLA has helped me to be at the cutting edge of technology, as well as, in terms of people management, to understand and follow up on customer needs while knowing how to delegate and use correct communication channels. This ensures efficient service from us as a team which is very satisfying. I am grateful for the exposure to first world ethics and professional conduct in business which I have received through training with and working at XMPLA.
